Pre-Operative Evaluation

Prior to the surgery, it is important that you understand the procedure, complications, and your expected hospital course. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them. Even if you think it is a dumb question, ask it because it may clarify many aspects for you. If you smoke, you should stop three weeks prior to the operation. This will help decrease lung complications.

Many tests will be done before the surgery, usually as an out-patient, to evaluate your physical condition. If it is found that you have gall stones or gallbladder problems, it will probably be recommended that your gallbladder be removed at the time of the surgery.

The Pre-Operative tests are listed on the next page.
